To provide a steel plate height detection device capable of accurately detecting the height of a steel plate in a pickling tank even when the temperature of pickling liquid is different from that of the normal production time.
The steel plate height detection device includes: a detection part 3 for detecting the height of a steel plate 2 in a state of being immersed in pickling liquid inside a pickling tank; and a correction part 4 for correcting an error of the detection result of the detection part 3 which is caused due to influence of the temperature of the pickling liquid. The detection part 3 includes an iron core 5 facing the steel plate 2 inside the pickling tank. The iron core 5 is wound by a DC winding 7 and an AC winding 9. The DC winding 7 is supplied with a constant current from a DC current source 6. A magnetic flux is generated by this electric conduction. A current is generated in the AC winding 9 by the movement of the steel plate 2 with respect to the magnetic flux, and on the basis of the current generated, a height H of the steel plate 2 is detected by the detection part 3. The DC winding 7 and the AC winding 9 are retained at the same temperature. The correction part 4 corrects the error of the detection result of the detection part 3 which is caused due to the influence of the temperature of the pickling liquid, based on the voltage of both ends of the DC winding 7.
