PURPOSE: To obtain the titled steel for a metal mold having low spark hardenability and simultaneously satisfying necessary various characteristics such as good mirror surface finishing property or the like and containing no expensive element such as Mo, by incorporating a small amount of C, Si, Mn, Cr, and an intermediate W high Cu content in steel as basic components.
CONSTITUTION: The titled steel contains, on the basis of wt%, 0.10W0.30 C, 1.50 or less Si, 0.20W2.50 Mn, 1.50W3.50 Cr, 0.80W3.00 Cu, and according to necessity, 0.30W2.00 Ni, 0.30 or less S, in addition, 0.50 or less combined total amount of one or more of each 0.50 or less Pb, Se, Te, Bi and 0.40 or less Ce as basic components or further contains 0.40 or less V added to the basic components and comprises the remainder of Fe and usual impurities. In this case, because a proper amount of elements delaying A1 transformation when a temp. is instantaneously raised to a high temp., that is, a small amount of C, Si, Cr or the like are contained, spark hardenability can be made small. By hardening due to only a large amount of precipitation of a Cu-Fe intermetallic compound, excellent cutting property is imparted and bainite hardenability due to Cu can be enhanced and, because Mo or the like is not contained, more excellent mirror surface finishing property and grain processability are obtained. In addition, sufficient corrosion resistance and anti-rust property are obtained by Cr.
