Heat treating of steel sheet comprises adjusting the temperature of the sheet at the inlet of a bath and the running speed of the sheet or run length of the sheet so that the transfer front of the vapour deposited film on the surface of the sheet does not appear on a rising portion of the sheet in the bath.
