To solve the following problem: application of steel slag is limited because of very different compositions and physical properties dependent on makers and lots and further effective utilization of steel slag is requested, however in an effective utilization method using crushing, steel slag has inferior so-called crushability, causes severe wear of a crusher, and needs large crushing energy and high crushing cost.
As a result of keen examination with the view to such actual conditions, it is found that hydration and/or carbonation of steel slag before crushing and classification reduces crushing cost and enables an iron-rich component and a calcium-rich component to be efficiently separated, and consequently a steel slag treatment method is provided by which a high iron content material having a larger Fe2O3 content than the original steel slag and/or a low iron content material having a smaller Fe2O3 content is recovered, so that the steel slag is effectively utilized.
