To move robots not only to a main member of a steel tower but also to a diagonal member or a horizontal member by providing a separating/ recovering mechanism for transferring a second robot on the diagonal member or the horizontal member of the steel tower by separating the second robot from a first robot by a connecting means and recovering the second robot again to the first robot from these members.
In a steel tower of a truss structure, a second robot B is carried up to a connecting position of a diagonal member or a horizontal member D of a main column member C by a first robot A, this robot is transferred on the diagonal member or the horizontal member D, and while moving the second robot B on the diagonal member or the horizontal member D by self- traveling, the diagonal member or the horizontal member D is painted by a painting device E, and after finishing painting, the second robot B is recovered again to the first robot A by a separating/recovering mechanism 89, and can be moved and carried up to the next diagonal member or horizontal member D. This operation is successively performed by respective diagonal members or horizontal members D to paint the whole diagonal members or horizontal members D of the steel tower without relying on manual work at all.
