To provide a steel tube for an air back which has high dimensional precision and excellent low temperature toughness (burst resistance), and to provide a production method therefor.

The steel tube is produced through quenching, tempering, cold reduction and final low temperature annealing. The X-ray integrated intensity ratio in the {110} plane in the face vertical to a circumferential direction T to that in the face vertical to an axial direction L, (L/T) is controlled to ≤50. The reduction of area from a tube stock on the cold reduction is ≤50%.
