To provide a steel wire rod for wire drawing in which surface defects after wire drawing can be reduced, and to provide its production method.
(1) In the steel wire rod for wire drawing after the removal of scales, the depth of a recessed part in the surface is <100 μm, and further, the ratio of the depth (D) of the recessed part with a depth of ≥10 μm to the width (W) of an opening part, (D/W) is <1. (2) In the steel wire rod for wire drawing after the removal of scales, at the time when, using 10 or more parts at intervals of ≥100 mm in the longitudinal direction of the wire rod as measuring points, the surface shapes in the circumferential direction are measured at the measuring points, the depth of the recessed parts to be measured is <100 μm, and further, the ratio of the depth (D) of the recessed parts with a depth of ≥10 μm to the width (W) of opening parts, (D/W) is <1. (3) The method for producing the steel wire rod for wire drawing or the like are provided.
