To provide a lance for preventing the accumulation of skull on the lance for oxygen top-blown refining used to produce a steel in an oxygen converter, and a method for preventing the accumulation of skull.

The self-cleaning lance 10 contains a lance body 12 having an upper end part and a lower end part 16 and extending along the axis in the longitudinal direction, where the lower end part 16 is apart from the upper end part along the axis in the longitudinal direction. One or more of main nozzles 18 are positioned so as to approach the lower end part 16 and constituted so as to discharge the oxygen-containing gas, and one or more of skull removal nozzles 20 are arranged so as to be apart from the lower end part 16 upward and constituted so as to discharge the skull removal gas. This lance body 12 has a first part 28 extending in the axial direction to the main nozzle 18 from the skull removal nozzle 20 and a second part 29 above the skull removal nozzle, and this first part 28 has a smaller outer periphery than the outer periphery of the second part 29. The skull removal nozzle 20 is extended at ≤25° angle to the longitudinal directional axis.
