To conduct stabilization of steel slag in a shorter time than ever in a stabilization process in which aged steel slag is carbonized by exposing it to the flow of carbon dioxide and improve the reaction efficiency of carbon dioxide.
The method of stabilization of steel slag includes adjusting an amount of water added to aging-treated steel slag in a way that the amount is less than a moisture amount at which free water begins existent and not less than an amount 10 mass% less than the moisture amount and exposing the steel slag to the flow of a carbon dioxide-containing gas to carbonize the steel slag. In the carbonization process, when a temperature change per unit length of time of the atmosphere surrounding the steel slag becomes ≤1.2°C/hr, the feed rate of the carbon dioxide is increased to the extent that the feed rate is within the limit at which a channeling, a phenomenon in which the gas flows selectively through part of the steel slag, of the gas flow does not occur.
