To provide a steering apparatus that can transmit output of a motor to at least either of an elevation angle adjusting mechanism or an axial position adjusting mechanism with a simple structure and can interrupt the transmission of output of the motor.

The steering apparatus 1 includes: a tilt angle adjusting mechanism 100; a telescopic mechanism 200; and a driving mechanism. The driving mechanism has a rotating member 331 that rotates by a motor 2; a rotation transmission member 332 (hereafter, "transmission member 332") for tilt coupled to the tilt angle adjusting mechanism 100; and a switching mechanism 400 which changes the position of the rotating member 331. The rotating member 331 has a projected shape projecting in the transmission member 332, and the transmission member 332 has a recessed shape where the projected shape part is inserted. The switching mechanism 400 moves the rotating member 331 to the connecting position, and inserts the projected shape part into the recessed part, and moves the rotating member 331 to a non-connecting position and pulls out the projected shape from the recessed part.
