Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To make smooth changing over between the auto mode and manual mode.
SOLUTION: This steering device of an automobile is equipped with a steering mechanism 1, a switching means 75 with which the driver switches from the first steering mechanism 1 to the second steering mechanism 3 and vice versa, a control means 73 to make automatic control of an actuator 67 on the basis of the running environmental information with switching into the second steering mechanism 3, and steering hold means 13a, 13b and 49 to hold the steering angle of the first steering mechanism 1, and further the arrangement includes a neutral sensing means 29 to sense that the steering angle of the first steering mechanism 1 lies in the left-right neutral position. When the switching means 75 switches to the second steering mechanism 3, automatic control of the actuator 67 is made by the control means 73 on the basis of the running environmental information only when the neutral sensing means 29 senses the left-right neutral position.
