PURPOSE: To prevent any flaws to a metal plate surface and its deformation from occurring, by installing at least a pair of liner motors being set up in a conveying direction of the metal plate in the width direction with a constant clearance with the metal plate, and generating a shifting magnetic field in a direction to be opposed to each other to the width direction.
CONSTITUTION: In the case where a traveling metal plate 1 has shifted (zigzag) in the width direction for some reason or other, an area of the plate 1 to be covered by liner motors 10A and 10B is varied to some extent. And, forces fA and fB acting on the metal plate 1 is increased or decreased in proportion to the area of the metal plate 1 to be covered by these linear motors 10A and 10B. Therefore, push-back force (steering force) in the opposite direction to the moving direction acts on the metal plate 1 in a noncontact state. For this reason, the metal plate is stably travelable without entailing any flaws and deformation in it.
