A stencil printing apparatus comprises: a paper gate 57 which moves together with the passage of a paper sheet P toward a plate cylinder 71 from a paper feed part 40; press roller support members 83F, 83R and 90 which turn between a retreating position in which a press roller 81 is separated from the side of the plate cylinder and a pressing position in which the press roller is pressed against the side of the plate cylinder; interlock means 56, 59 which interlock the paper gate and the press roller support members; forcible lock means 62, 65 which forcibly lock the press roller support members to the retreating position even if the paper gate is positioned in a paper sheet passage position; paper sheet jam detection means 41, 111, 130 which detect the jam of the paper sheet; and a control means 130 which controls the forcible lock means. When the paper gate is positioned in the paper sheet passage position and the jam of the paper sheet is detected by the paper sheet jam detection means, the press roller support members are positioned in the retreating position by the forcible lock means via the control means.
