To provide a stent insertion method and a stent insertion system which contain a slender feed sleeve and a catheter that is arranged in the lumen of the sleeve and has a dilatable member at a far end thereof.
A dilatable stent is arranged on a dilatable member of a catheter. A manipulator device is installed at the near end of a stent insertion system and an axial relative motion is generated between a sleeve and the catheter so that the stent mounted on the dilatable member of the catheter is exposed into the lumen of a human body such as a dilating coronary artery with the dilation of the dilatable member. The feed sleeve has a first port at the far end thereof and a second port arranged in the wall body of the sleeve on the near side from the far end thereof. Likewise, the catheter has a first port at the far end thereof and a second port on the near side from the far end thereof. The lumen is dilated between the first and second ports at the far end part of the catheter to receive a guide member such as guide wire. The system can insert the stent along the guide wire previously advanced to a desired site inside the human body.
