PURPOSE: To reduce the axial size of a stepper motor by forming a pair of stators of radially and outwardly projecting inner teeth and radially and inwardly projecting outer teeth, and opposing the teeth at a predetermined electric angle on the same plane.
CONSTITUTION: A stepper motor is composed of a rotor 2 having a disklike permanent magnet 1, etc., a pair of stators 5, 6 having inner teeth 3 and outer teeth 4, and excitation coils 7, 8 for exciting the stators. Bearings 11, 12 for supporting the rotational shaft 9 of the rotor 2 are attached to cases 13, 14 used also as yokes, and the teeth 3, 4 are attached to inner and outer cylinders 15, 16. In this case, the stators 5, 6 are so arranged that radially and outwardly projecting inner teeth 3 and radially and inwardly projecting outer teeth 4 are opposed at a predetermined electric angle θ substantially on the same plane. Further, the circumferential poles of the magnet 1 are displaced by π between the inner and outer teeth as one electric angle therebetween. Thus, the axial size can be largely reduced.
