To enhance, in a distance measuring apparatus using a stereo camera, the accuracy of correcting parallax detecting errors of the stereo camera and thereby improve the accuracy of distance measurement.

Distances between a stereo camera and an object for correction use are set according to a plurality of available designed parallax values, and the object for correction use is shot with the stereo camera at different distances to detect a real parallax value for each horizontal coordinate value. Then, for each of the plurality of designed parallax values, a real measured parallax value table indicating the designed parallax values and real parallax values corresponding to the horizontal coordinate values is generated, and from these real measured parallax value tables a parallax correction table indicating the real parallax values and parallax correction quantities corresponding to the horizontal coordinate values is generated for each of the multiple real parallax values corresponding to the plurality of designed parallax values.
