This projector is provided with a light source 20 for radiating light, a light-converging means 21 for converging the light and converting it to parallel light, a color separation means 23 for separating the parallel light into respective color components, a first polarized light separation means 26 for polarized light, separating a separated red color component and simultaneously forming the optical image of the red color component, a second polarized light separation means 32 for polarized light, separating a separated blue color component and simultaneously forming the optical image of the blue color component and a third polarized light separation means 38 for polarized light, separating a separated green color component and simultaneously forming the optical image of the green color component.
