To realize stereoscopic display by a compact projecting device by branching a light beam emitted from the same light source and guiding the respective branched light beams to a projection optical system.
The light beam emitted from the light source 1 and collected by a reflector 2 is branched into two beams by a half mirror 3 and a mirror 4. The two branched light beams are respectively guided to a liquid crystal panel 7 for displaying a picture for a left eye and a liquid crystal panel 8 for displaying a picture for a right eye through condensing lenses 5 and 6. Then, the light beams transmitted through the panels 7 and 8 are respectively projected to a screen 11 through projection lenses 9 and 10 being the projection optical systems. The stereoscopic picture is obtained from the projected picture. Since the light sources 1 and the reflectors 2 need not be provided for the left and right eyes, respectively, the device is miniaturized.
