PURPOSE: To provide a stereoscopic endoscope image pickup device with which stereoscopic viewing is possible and high-resolution images are obtainable by using two image pickup elements.
CONSTITUTION: A TV camera head 12 for 3D arranged with two CCDs 34a, 34b deviated from each other by half the pixels in a horizontal direction is mounted at a rigid endoscope 11 for 3D of a pupil division system. The images respectively obtd. by these two CCDs 34a, 34b are alternately displayed by a monitor. A user is able to stereoscopically view these images by wearing liquid crystal shutter spectacles and observing the images. The opening quantity of a diaphragm 24 is made small to set the state of permitting approximation of the right and left optical axes to one optical axis and the pixels of the images obtd. by the two CCDs 34a, 34b are alternately outputted and are displayed on the monitor, by which the high-resolution images are obtd.
