The stereoscopic image generating device which generates a stereoscopic image including a right-eye image and a left-eye image on the basis of images captured by an imaging apparatus comprises: shift amount acquisition means which acquires, on the basis of an object distance in each of plural areas within the image captured by the imaging apparatus and a stereoscopic effect parameter, the shift amount of each of the plural areas; and stereoscopic image generation means which generates the stereoscopic image by shifting the partial images of the plural areas within the captured image, on the basis of the shift amount acquired by the shift amount acquisition means.
