To provide a small-sized and lightweight stereoscopic microscope capable of observing microscope observation images and monitor images through the eyepiece of a microscope at all times regardless of eye width adjustment and obtaining the bright monitor images of a high resolution.
Inside a housing 2' for holding the eyepiece 207 in the binocular cylinder 2 of this stereoscopic microscope, a light source 210 and a monitor image display having a reflection type display device 209 for receiving light from the light source 210 through a polarizing beam splitter 212 are provided, and an image of the light source 210 is formed at or near the pupil position of the eyepiece 207. Preferably, the reflection type display device 209 is constituted of ferroelectric liquid crystal for receiving the light from the light source 210 and for modulating reflection intensity.
