Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To suppress production of a dead angle in the monitoring while avoiding a load on a stereoscopic image processing from being increased.
SOLUTION: A couple of cameras 2, 3 being components of a stereo camera have selectable output modes; a first output mode and a second output mode. The stereo camera outputs stereo image data one frame of which comprises a group including the prescribed number of horizontal lines in the first output mode. The stereo camera outputs stereo image data one frame of which comprises a group including the prescribed number of horizontal lines, whose vertical interval is coarser than that in the first output mode, in the second output mode. A stereo image processing section 7 calculates distance data by stereo matching on the basis of the outputted stereo image data. An object recognition section 11 recognizes an object on the basis of the distance data. Then an instruction section 13 instructs the cameras 2, 3 to select the output mode depending on the distance of the object to be recognized.
