To obtain the subject inhibitor having excellent steroid 5 α-reductase II-type-specific inhibitory effect, and useful in e.g. hair growth stimulants, anti- acnevulgaris bacteria skin drugs, by including a triterpene compound as active ingredient.
This inhibitor is obtained by including a compound of formula I (R is a 1-6C alkyl) (e.g. a compound of formula II) as active ingredient which is afforded by separation from extracts of plants such as cuachalalate; juliania adstringens, Amphiptery gumadstringens or the like, belonging to the family Julianiaceae. When this inhibitor is to be used in e.g. medicaments/quasi-drugs and cosmetic compositions, it is preferable that its daily dose is 4-10 ml and the abovementioned extract(s) is included at 0.005-20 wt.% on a dry basis.
