To obtain a new steroid glycoside which obtained by extraction of a plant in liliaceae plant and is a specific steroid glycoside, shows high anticancer action and high immunosuppression with high safety and is useful as an active ingredient for anticancer and immunosuppression agent.
This new steroid glycoside is expressed by formula I [R1 is H, a saccharide residue which may have an acyl group; R2 is a saccharide residue which may have an acyl group of formula II (R2a is H, an acetyl; R2b is H, p-hydroxybenzoyl, p-methoxybenzoyl, 3,4-dimethoxybezoyl, cinnamoyl)]. It show excellent anticancer action and high immunosuppression and is useful as an active ingredient for anticancer agent or anti-immunosuppression agent. This compound is obtain by cutting fresh scaly bulbs of a liliaceae plant, Onityhogalum saundersiae into fine pieces, soaking them in warm methanol, removing the solvent, the residue to liquid-liquid extraction with butanol-water and purifying the butanol layer through chromatography.
