To realize the sticking of liquid crystal cells with a simple and inexpensive mechanism without adopting a pressurizing system utilizing an compressed air, etc.
In the sticking device 1 of liquid crystal cells, superimposed glass substrates 6, 7 are placed on a plate-like tray 22, which is ultraviolet ray-transmissible, the entire upper surface 6a thereof is covered with a flexible airtight sheet 9 to form a hermetic space 40 and then evacuation is executed. The glass substrates 6, 7 are pressed by the atmospheric pressure from both sides. A frame-like projecting part 22b, which is the same in height, is formed around the glass substrates, and thus, stresses exerting on the outer circumferential edges of the glass substrates 6, 7 are mitigated and the entire surfaces of the glass substrates 6, 7 are uniformly pressed. Consequently, a uniform gap is formed. The glass substrates 6, 7 are supported with the plate-like tray 22, which is ultraviolet ray-transmissible, and thus, a sealant. W is possible to be hardened by executing ultraviolet rays irradiation from the rear surf ace of the plate-like tray 22 even if the sealant is applied on areas close to these outer circumferential edges.
