To provide a method of increasing the stiffness characteristics of parts of a tire tread while minimizing the known performance disadvantages.
A pneumatic tire 10 includes: a tread base 34 comprised of a first material 36; a tread cap 32 comprised of a second material 38, and rings 40, 42 comprised of a third material 39. The tread cap 32 is disposed radially outward of the tread base 34 and in operational contact with a ground surface. The ring is disposed at least partially within the tread cap and extends radially away from the tread base. The rings 40, 42 are disposed at least partially within the tread cap 32 and extends radially away from the tread base 34. The rings 40, 42 have a stiffness in the radial direction greater than stiffnesses in the circumferential and lateral directions. The third material 39 has a substantially lower hysteresis than the second material 38 during operation of the pneumatic tire 10. The third material 39 constitutes an electrical conductivity path to the ground surface.
