Abstract:
To provide a still picture recording and reproducing device and its method that can record a still picture with a higher number of pixels other than predetermined number of pixels (720×480) while keeping the compatibility with the standards of conventional models in the case of recording the still picture in compliance with the DV standards.
A data quantity estimate device 6 underestimates an object quantity of data after compression of one video segment by about 5% so as to produce a gap time region in a transmission sync block after setting a variable length code word outputted from a 1st compressor 9 to the block. Then a 2nd compressor 10 sets its output signal over a plurality of frames to the time gap area.
