This stocking device comprises pallets 2A, 2B, 2C on which workpieces W are mounted, respectively, and a conveyor body 3 so supporting the pallets 2A, 2B, 2C that they can travel in predetermined directions A, B between a workpiece loading part 3a and a workpiece unloading part 3b. Each of the pallets 2A, 2B, 2C comprises a drive motor for supplying a power for traveling in the predetermined directions A, B, sensors disposed at the front and rear of each of the pallets 2A, 2B, 2C and detecting the presence of an adjacent obstacle, and a control circuit connected to the sensors and so supplying a power to each of the drive motors that the pallets 2 can travel in the predetermined traveling directions A, B in which an obstacle is not detected.
