To provide a stopper for a blast furnace taphole capable of reducing the load on the tapping work in a blast furnace and contributing to the stable operation of the blast furnace.
The stopper for the blast furnace taphole is obtained by kneading powder comprising refractory aggregate and refractory fine powder with coal tar and/or phenol resin and contains 2-20 mass% carbon black raw material having 50-200 ml/100g oil absorption in butyl phthalate per 100 pts.mass (mass%) particle and contains, in external addition, 17-30 mass% carbon-containing liquid binder such as coal tar and/or phenol resin containing ≤3 mass% clay component. It is preferable that the stopper for the pig iron taphole contains 2-15 mass% carbon black raw material having 50-150 ml/100g oil absorption in butyl phthalate and contains, in external addition, 17-25 mass% carbon-containing liquid binder such as coal tar and/or phenol resin containing ≤3 mass% clay component.
