To provide the stopping device of a diesel engine which is small-sized and is improved in reliability.

The stopping device of this engine has a solenoid 10 for stopping having an exciting coil 51 constituted of a single suction coil and a control part 90. The control part 90 makes it possible to start the engine by retreating a plunger 11 by flowing heavy current to the exciting coil 51 in response to the operation of the operation switch of the engine to a starting location, and makes it possible to operate the engine by holding the plunger 11 by flowing small current to the exciting coil 51 in response to the return of the operation switch of the engine to an operation location.
