PURPOSE: To make it possible to allow a storage battery to be very thin shape and suitable for portable equipment or the like by forming concave and convex end faces fitted with each other at least at one side of positive electrode plates and negative electrode plates and arranging the positive and negative electrode plates, the end faces of which separators are interposed between, on a same plane.

CONSTITUTION: A positive electrode plate 1 with two sawtooth-shaped sides and a negative electrode plate 2 with so similar sawtooth-shaped sides as to correspond to the sawtooth-shape of the positive electrode plate are used, micro- glasswool is interposed between both the electrode plates as a separator 3 and they are arranged within a case 6. As the more the number of the sawtooth- shape concave and convex made on the positive electrode plate 1 and the negative electrode plate 2 increases the larger the portion contributing to discharge reaction becomes, a battery suitable for high rate discharge can be obtained.
