PURPOSE: To store energy in an underground storage without environmental pollution by a method wherein the water pressure from a water source and the inside pressure of the storage are balanced by supplying and discharging water to store energy in a form of compressed air and take out it when necessary.
CONSTITUTION: For example, in storing energy in a form of compressed air, a main underground path 1 is vertically formed underground and a large capacity underground storage tank 2 which communicates with the main path 1 is built below the main path 1. The main underground path 1 is provided with an isolation layer 3 for break and leakage prevention and a block valve 12 which is located near the ground surface L and connected to a discharge pipe 56. A water source 8 is connected to the bottom of the underground storage tank 2 by a pressurizing water path 6 to pressurize the air in the storage tank 2 by the water pressure of the water source 8, so that energy is stored in the form of compressed air. The energy stored is taken out when necessary, and the consumption is replenished with compressed air which is produced by energy from an refuse incinerator, etc., and sent into the storage tank 2. Thus, energy is stored according to the pressure balance between the water source 8 and the storage tank 2.
