To provide a strength test method for an engine valve not generating an unnecessary stress on portions other than a portion to be tested for strength, testing without fluctuating an applied stress during the test, requiring a short time for setting to a test device, and avoiding generation of a flaw on a valve face in a head part during the setting.
Only a cotter clamping part is clamped and held on one end of a spindle 7 coaxially with the spindle 7 connected to a rotational drive system. A stem part 5 at a certain span distance from the clamped/held part is held for rotation. The strength at the cotter clamping part is tested by applying loads in the axial direction of the stem part 5 and the vertical direction to the stem part 5 at the stem part 5 at the certain span distance from the clamped/held part while the valve 1 is being rotated about its axis by rotating the spindle 7.
