To provide a carpet stretching apparatus with which a worker can perform work in a standing posture and a carpet stretching system capable of omitting an auxiliary means for holding a gripping cleat at the prescribed position of a carpet during use.

A carpet stretching system 10 includes a stretching apparatus 12 provided with a foot-operated pedal actuator 52, an anchor apparatus 14 and an extension apparatus 16 for connecting the stretching apparatus to the anchor apparatus. The extension apparatus includes at least one adjustable extender piece 18 and/or one or more fixed length extender piece(s) 20 and an adapter 22 for connecting the extension apparatus to the anchor apparatus. The anchor apparatus can take the form of a cleat 24 that securely grips into the carpet behind the stretching apparatus and the stretching apparatus can be firmly anchored so that forces generated by the stretching apparatus can be imparted into the carpet.
