To enable crisscross binding of a stack of newspapers and magazines with a string without lifting the bottom of the newspapers and magazines stacked to have the string pass under the bottom of the newspapers and magazines when binding them crisscross with the string.
A string-cross binding block is constructed by forming solid portions 2, where the string is set, on four corners of a rectangular plate portion 1 and forming a space 3 between the adjacent solid portions 2. When the binding block is used, a looped part of the string for binding newspapers and magazines is set on one of the solid portions 2, while the other part of the string before and after the looped part is trained crisscross between the solid portions 2. In this state, the stacked newspapers and magazines are put on the string-cross binding block. The looped part of the string is then pulled up to the top of the newspapers and magazines and the other end of the string is put through the looped part to crisscross bind the newspapers and magazines.
