To provide a string which has good spreadability, is not damaged during spreading and can be improved in spinnability.

This string for a racket is formed by coating the surface of a raw thread made of a synthetic resin with a resin mixture containing a terpene-base resin at 2 to 20 wt.%. More preferably the surface of the raw thread is coated with this mixture over two layers. The content and coating thickness of the terpene-base resin in the outer layer are set respectively lower than the content and coating thickness of the terpene-base resin in the inner layer. These contents and coating thicknesses are respectively set at 2 to 7 wt.% and 2 to 7 μm in the outer layer and respectively 8 to 20 wt.% and 30 to 80 μm in the inner layer.
