Title:
STRUCTURAL BODIES HAVING AT LEAST ONE OF CAVITY SUBMERSIBLE COMPLETELY
Document Type and Number:
Japanese Patent JPS5310117
Kind Code:
A
Abstract:
The structure has one or more closed hollow bodies, filled with a medium or fluid so that it can be fully immersed underwater. They body itself (1) has insufficient strength to resist the external water pressure at its working depth, and open tubes (4) reaching the free surface are provided to prevent collapse of deck, sides and bottom at this depth. The body can be a conventional floating one, and partic. the hull of a ship, or part of one. The tubes communicate freely with the inside of the body, its length being such that when the body is submerged the fluid level (6) inside it is rough the same as the external water line.
