To provide a structural member which can attain reduction in weight and manufacturing cost with forming material used effectively by forming such a cross-sectional shape that can maximize strength without increasing the capacity (weight) of the forming material when a hollow member with one or more of corner parts is used as the reinforcing member of an automotive bumper or the structural member of a general structure.
This structural member is formed so as to obtain the following: (1) a hollow member with one or more of corner parts, and at least one of the corner parts 10a to 10d is formed to have a large wall thickness. (2) One or more of reinforcing ribs formed with a vacancy is formed between the side parts 2a at a hollow part, which face stress direction applied to the hollow member. (3) A cross type reinforcing rib formed with the vacancy is formed at the hollow part. (4) A combination of (1) and (2). (5) A combination of (1) and (3).
