To provide a carbonization apparatus and a carbonization method wherein smoke and a flame are prevented from being produced from a carbide when the carbide is taken out.

When a combustible organic substance is baked for carbonization in a carbonization chamber, there is provided a gas back-flow prevention member for example such as a check damper 16 in a carbonization chamber fuel 10 communicating from the carbonization chamber to a combustion chamber. In carbonization operation the gas track-flow prevention member is opened for operation, and in cooling operation after completion of the carbonization operation the gas back-flow prevention member is closed and is operated.
