Abstract:

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To deflect and deform a front end of an engine hood downward when the automobile collides with a pedestrian and the upper body of the pedestrian hits the front portion of the engine hood from top to reduce the impact on the pedestrian.
SOLUTION: In this structure of an engine hood lock where a striker 2 placed on the back surface side of a front end portion of an engine hood 1 of an automobile comprising an outer panel 10 and an inner panel 11 is locked disengageably to a hood lock 4 placed on a radiator support upper 5 positioned at a upper front end portion of an engine room, a striker support member 3 having a substantially U shape in section is fixed to the back surface of the outer panel 10, the support member 3 is projected downward of the inner panel 11 passing through a hole 12 formed on the panel 11, the striker 2 is fixed on the bottom surface of a bottom wall 30 of the member 3, and a deformable portion 33 that is deformed easily in a vertical direction is formed on vertical walls 31 and 32 of the member 3.
