Title:
STRUCTURE FOR FILTERING CARBON PARTICULATE IN EXHAUST GAS AND PRODUCTION OF THE SAME
Document Type and Number:
Japanese Patent JPS57147415
Kind Code:
A
Abstract:

PURPOSE: To enhance the collecting efficiency for carbon particulates by a method wherein partition walls of through-holes in a honeycomb construction are provided with a plurality of pores communicating the adjacent through-holes, and a major part of the exhaust gas is passed through the pores.

CONSTITUTION: A slurry prepared by adding to a ceramic raw material a powder of low-melting material such as copper or a powder of Fe, Ni, Co or the like meltable at a lower temperature than the ceramic material is molded into a honeycomb shape, and is sintered. As a result, a liquid phase formed by the additives increases the shrinkage factor at the part in the vicinity to the additives, and the liquid phase diffuses to the surroundings to form pores larger than the particle size of the additive, thereby producing the pores 31 penetrating through the partition walls 3 of the through-holes 12. In addition, the through-holes 2 are opened at one end side and are closed at the other side by a cover member 4, so that the exhaust gas flows in from the opened end as indicated by the arrow, after which the gas flows through the pores 31 and flows out via the opened end on the other side.
