Abstract:
PURPOSE: To eliminate a slit edge part so as to prevent the damage of a work piece by using ultra-hard material with high wear resistance for a workpiece holding face, and binding this ultra-hard material with elastic material so as to form an elastically deformable sleeve.
CONSTITUTION: A collet chuck 4 is disposed at the tip part of a spindle 3 rotatably supported to the headstock of an NC automatic lathe by a bearing 2. The outer peripheral tapered face 4a of the collet chuck 4 and the inner peripheral tapered face 6a are strongly pressed by the movement of a chuck sleeve 5 to the left, so that the collet chuck 4 is closed inward to grip a workpiece W. The chuck sleeve 5 is formed of the material obtained by burning the powder of ultra-hard material with either one of soft metal such as Al, Cu, ZrO2 and organic material so as to be elastically deformable. Al2O3, SiC, Sl3N4, diamond, or the like is used as the powder of ultra-hard material.
