Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To attain a request for good mechanical properties as those of a structural material and a request for protection against the thermal energy of an arc at a high level. SOLUTION: Each powder or fiber of Nb and Al, or both are dispersedly blended, and this blend is sintered in an unreacted state into a sintered compact, or the thin sheets of Nb and Al are alternatively laminated into a clad plate in which each thin film has been integrated in an unreacted state. Nb and Al are locally and instantaneously reacted by the heat generated on a collision of a high speed object, or on the application of an arc to produce an intermetallic compound, thereby the propagation of damages such as cracking is suppressed.
