To provide a structure and a method for repairing a fatigue crack which can easily and inexpensively repair the fatigue crack extending from the front surface to the rear surface of a steel plate and can extend the fatigue life of a steel structure by stopping or delaying the development of the fatigue crack.
A plastic deformation is applied to the front surface 1a of a steel plate 1 by peening the peripheries (La1, La2) of and/or the just upper part (La3) of the opening of a fatigue crack 2 in the front surface 1a of the steel plate 1 in parallel with the fatigue crack to close the opening of the fatigue crack 2 in the front surface 1a of the steel plate 1 so as to form a crack contact surface 2a. In the same manner, a plastic deformation is applied to the rear surface 1b of the steel plate 1 by peening the peripheries (Lb1, Lb2) of and/or the just upper part (Lb3) of the opening of the fatigue crack 2 in the rear surface 1b of the steel plate 1 in parallel with the fatigue crack 2 to close the opening of the fatigue crack 2 in the rear surface 1b of the steel plate 1 so as to form a crack contact surface 2b.
