Abstract:

PURPOSE: To make a distance for moving an optical switch element short by cutting a groove having above 1/2 thickness of an optical waveguide comprising a bundled fibers intersecting an optical axis of the optical waveguide orthogonally, and inserting a base plate mounting a photoreceptor and a light emitting element straightly toward the groove into the inside of the groove space.

CONSTITUTION: An optical waveguide 1 is prepd. from about several ten thousands bundled optical fibers constituted of a core material consisting of SiO2-B2O3-BaO glass and a clad material consisting of SiO2-B2O3-Al2O3 glass, pressed to a bar having 100μm outside diameter, and a groove 2 having 1.75mm depth is cut in the orthogonal direction to the direction of the optical axis of the optical waveguide 1. The optical waveguide 1 is inserted into a hole 6 while registering a hole 5 in a frame 4 with the groove 2. The optical waveguide 1 is heated in N2 and fixed in the hole 6. Then, a base plate 7 is inserted into the hole 5 of the frame 4 from its tip end where optical elements are mounted until the tip end reaches the groove 2 of the optical waveguide 1, and a frange 11 of the base plate 7 is welded to the frame. By this constitution, an optical switch comprising a light penetrable optical waveguide arranged closely to a photoreceptor and a light emitting element is obtd.
