Abstract:

To provide a structure of a superconducting multi-core billet and a method of manufacturing a superconducting multi-core wire material, capable of reducing manufacturing time and disconnection frequency during diameter reduction-wire drawing.

In a multi-core billet, a billet 2 whose cross section is circular, being made from copper or copper alloy, has a plurality of vertical holes 3, and the vertical holes are filled with a superconduction material 4 of NbTi. The volume copper ratio of copper or copper alloy/NbTi is four or higher. The vertical holes are spaced with a constant interval on the concentric circles of two layers, consisting of an outer layer and an inner layer, relative to the center of the billet. The number of vertical holes N1 on the concentric circle of the outer layer is represented by an even number, being 16 to 38. The number of vertical holes N2 on the concentric circle of the inner layer is represented by N1/2, N1/4, or N1/8. The vertical holes of the inner layer are arranged in the middle of the arrangement angle of adjoining vertical holes in the outer layer.
