A study desk A is designed to be placed with the back end of its desk top 1 in close contact with the wall or the front face of a bookshelf B, the desk top 1 being supported by legs 2 on both sides. Both legs are arranged in a way of not backwardly sticking out of the back end of the desk top, while an expansion top 3 which is attached to the desk top or the legs directly or indirectly via another member, the desk A can be set either in a horizontal position where the expansion top attached to the back end of the desk top together with the desk top forms a continuously joined level surface, or in a storage position where the expansion top is stored in a way that it does not stick out of the desk top back end.
