Abstract:

PURPOSE: To realize the sub band coding method in which a video signal is compressed at a high compression efficiency and weblet conversion with less image quality deterioration in a decoded image is adopted.
CONSTITUTION: Each quantization step width for an LH signal at a frequency band higher in the vertical direction and lower in the horizontal direction, an HL signal at a frequency band lower in the vertical direction and higher in the horizontal direction, and an HH signal at a frequency band higher in both the vertical direction and horizontal direction in a layer including a highest frequency component in a luminance signal and a color difference signal divided into plural frequency bands respectively is selected to be LH signal <HL signal <HH signal as to the luminance signal and to be HL signal <LH signal <HH signal as to the chrominance signal. Thus, the video signal is compressed at a high compression efficiency and the deterioration in the image quality of the decoded image is reduced.
