Abstract:
PURPOSE: To prevent firing and destruction of a endotracheal jet ventilating tube even though subjected to impact from laser beam by structuring a slender flexible conduit made of a flame resistant plastic material and a centering member for positioning a distal end of the conduit within a trachea at a center. CONSTITUTION: A jet tube 10 consists of a slender soft conduit 12 with an approximately circular cross-section having an inner passage 14, a proximal end 16 and a distal end 18. Preferably, the conduit 12 is made of a flame resistant plastic material such as polytetrafluoroethylene or Teflon. A reinforcing member 52 extends along a specified member of the conduit 12 within an impinging range by laser beam used during laser treatment. In the case that laser beam is impinged with a portion of the conduit 12 within an airway, the flame resistant conduit material prevents firing.
