To provide a submergible pump the motor of which is simplified in constitution and reduced in size, so as to save time at the maintenance of the motor and can be made to generate a high rotation torque when the pump is started and the rotational speed of the pump drops, and to provide a method of controlling the pump.
In this submergible pump, the turning on/off of a capacitor 25 for starting is controlled by turning on/off a relay switch 27, based on the terminal voltage of a capacitor 23 for operation detected by means of a DC voltage take-out circuit 43 via a transformer 69. When the terminal voltage becomes a reference voltage or lower, the capacitor 25 is actuated. The actuation of the capacitor 25 is continued, until the charged state of a capacitor 47a for counting time becomes a prescribed value or higher, after charging the capacitor 47a is started, when the terminal voltage becomes the reference voltage or higher.
